We Need a Lift!

Update: March 2023 – Progress is moving forward. Some work is being completed in house by qualified City Employees, Otis is installing new equipment, and the Library hopes to have a new working elevator by December 31, 2023. In the meantime, be kind to Library workers and be prepared for some noise if you visit, there is more noise than normal but it means there is progress!

In the fall of 2021, the North Platte Public Library elevator experienced major malfunctions. The Library has spent approximately $5,000 so far in failed efforts to “fix” the aging and heavily relied upon lift. This ancient 1970s technology is hard to find parts for and replace. Therefore, the Library needs new elevator. We want to support their fundraising efforts as this was an unplanned and unbudgeted expense.

The quote to replace just the electronics came in at $112,350 but did not include:

  • Machine Room work to install HVAC and new disconnect, lighting, and GFCI outlet
  • Pit Upgrades to install a 50GPM sump pump and additional lighting
  • Fire Alarm System with smoke heads at each landing floor, in the machine room, and in the top of the hoistway

Therefore, we are estimating the total project cost and fundraising goal to be $300,000.

Please consider donating toward this project through the North Platte Public Library FOUNDATION fund at Mid-Nebraska Community Foundation.
